Music column: Taylor Swift announces eleventh studio album

During her Grammys acceptance speech for best pop vocal album, awarded to her 2022 record “Midnights,” Taylor Swift announced her eleventh studio album “The Tortured Poets Department” which will release April 19.

“I want to say thank you to the fans by telling you a secret that I’ve been keeping from you for the last two years,” said Swift. “Which is that my brand new album comes out April 19.”

She also made Grammys history that night by being the first woman to win “Album of the Year” for the fourth time. After she left the stage, she posted on Instagram the cover art for the album captioned “All’s fair in love and poetry…”

The album will have 16 songs and a bonus track. Two musicians will be featured on the album. Post Malone is on the song titled “Fortnight,” and Florence + The Machine is on “Florida!!!!.”

Although the news of a new album was shocking and exciting, fans were awaiting the announcement of her 2017 album “Reputation” remastered. “Rep TV” was ahead of the Grammys on the Twitter trending page. Since 2021, Swift has been releasing re-recorded versions of her old albums. All that’s left to be re-recorded is “Reputation” and her self-titled debut album.

Swift kicked off the International leg of her tour “The Eras Tour” Feb. 7, 2024. On the first night of the Japan show, as well as during her Grammys acceptance speech, she explained to the crowd she had been working on the new album for almost two years.

Swift said, “I kept working on it throughout the U.S. tour, and when it was perfect – in my opinion when it’s good enough for you – I finished it and I am so, so excited that soon you’ll get to hear it.”

“The Tortured Poets Department” is available to preorder on Swift’s official website. The website includes different versions of the album including CD, cassette, vinyl and digital. The singer also plans to release a special collector’s edition deluxe CD. The special CD will have other bonus features as well as a 20-page booklet that has all of the song lyrics, secret photos, photo cards, a bookmark and a magnet.
