Food column: Jack’s opens in Ellisville, Laurel

The Jack’s franchise has debuted in Jones County. With a new Ellisville location that opened in November of 2023 and a new Laurel location that opened in April of 2024, customers have enjoyed the various menu items. From scratch-made biscuits, to burgers and hand-breaded chicken, to even the infamous milkshakes, the establishment offers a wide variety of food options.

The franchise was founded in Homewood, Alabama. Jack’s locations are primarily located in southern states, which gives them more of an at-home environment as many people associate them with being at home here in the south.

With a business that has been around since 1960, Jack’s not only brings down-home food to the community, but the company also gives back.

“One of our Jack’s values is service to the community,” explained Jamesa Epting, the Laurel location’s general manager. “We have a program called the Jack’s Family Fund. Employees donate a portion of their check to the fund every pay period. Through the Jack’s Family Fund, we provide financial assistance to those in the midst of a crisis. Whether it is a death in the family, a devastating fire, serious illness or sudden homelessness, the Jack’s Family Fund helps those who live and work in the communities where we operate our restaurants.”

Epting said that before the official opening of the Laurel restaurant, Jack’s opened their doors to police officers, firefighters and first responders to offer them free meals.

Jack’s locations aspire to have a friendly and welcoming environment.

Epting said that her favorite thing about the company is, “the family environment within the staff. They believe in taking care of their people and there are always opportunities for advancement.”

Readers can find these locations at 841 Adams St., Laurel, Mississippi and at 406 Hill St., Ellisville, Mississippi.
