Associate degree nursing students achieve 100% NCLEX Passage rate

The Jones College Associates Degree Nursing (ADN) Spring 2025 graduates have achieved a 100% passage rate on the National Counsel Licensure Exam (NCLEX-RN).

The NCLEX-RN is a standardized test that every aspiring nurse must take to receive their Registered Nursing (RN) license. This is the first time the ADN Program has received a 100% NCLEX-RN passage rate since 2019, with prior 100% passage rates in 2014 and 2012 as well.

Nursing I instructor Shana Doss has played a huge role in this achievement.

“[The students] truly want to be nurses, and we truly want them to succeed,” said Doss. She has been the Nursing I instructor for three years.

“NCLEX prep starts on day one; when the program starts, we’re immediately preparing them for the NCLEX,” Doss said.

The ADN Program spans over five semesters, with students receiving a mix of classroom and clinical experience, providing both textbook and real-world experience. Clinicals, which normally take place at South Central Regional Medical Center in Laurel, also helps students prepare for the NCLEX-RN exam. Clinicals give students hands-on experience with patients, doctors and other nursing students, which helps them gain knowledge and experience with real situations.

Clinicals begin the first semester of nursing school and continue throughout the entire two-year program, with students racking up around 12 clinical hours per week by the end of the program.

Along with the Spring 2025 class, there’s one more class who may not be so far behind either.

“So far, all of our Fall 2025 class has passed the NCLEX exam as well,” Doss said. “We might have a repeat of the Spring 2025 class.”

The ADN application for Fall 2026 opened at the beginning of January and applications closed March 1.
