Students share joyful Christmas traditions, memories

Christmas is just around the corner, and it is the perfect time for everyone on campus to embrace the Christmas spirit and get into a festive mood. Every person has a specific memory that brings them joy and excitement for the holidays.  Whether it’s opening presents on Christmas morning, putting up decorations or traveling for the holidays, these memories help bring back the warm feeling of Christmas.

Freshman Linsey Ingram recalls some of her fond memories of Christmas.

“My favorite Christmas tradition is decorating the Christmas tree with my family while listening to holiday music. It’s a cozy time where we can all laugh, talk and just enjoy being together,” Ingram said. “This holiday season, I’m most grateful for my family, my friends and the opportunity to pursue my passions, like photography. I feel fortunate to have supportive people around me and moments to cherish.”

She said that her favorite Christmas movie is “Home Alone” because it’s a classic and it’s funny. The movie always puts her in the holiday spirit.

Sophomore Calli Parker reminisces about her favorite Christmas memories, including a trip to Oregon to visit her sister.

“One of my family’s biggest traditions is getting together to eat jambalaya and playing Dirty Santa,” Parker said. “I am mostly grateful for being able to go see my long-distance boyfriend in D.C. for the holidays.”

To Parker, Christmas personally means getting together with loved ones and helping those who are less fortunate.

“It’s a time that you can give to others to spread the Christmas joy. You can take a break from the hustle and the bustle of life,” Parker said. “It’s important to spend time with family, and it’s the season to spread joy and kindness to everyone.”

Sophomore Danielle Williams mentions her favorite things to do over the holidays.

“I am most grateful to be able to see my family over the holidays,” Williams said. “My family will watch ‘National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation’together and eat Christmas snacks.”

Williams said that the best holiday present she has ever received is being able to see her family and spend time with them.

Williams’ personal view on Christmas is cherishing what you have with your family.

“Christmas is a time when you should spend time with the ones you love the most and cherish what you have with them because one day there will be a time when you can’t spend time with family anymore,” Williams said.

Gabe Spencer relives some of his favorite memories of himself and his family on Christmas.

“Whether it is at my house or at a family member’s house, I enjoy spending time with my family since I do not get to see them a lot,” Spencer said.

He mentions that one of the best Christmas gifts he’s ever received is his guitar, which he loves to play.

“This holiday season, I am most grateful to be around my family,” Spencer said.

Christmas is a precious time of year to spend with your loved ones. During this time, cherish the memories that will be made. Have a safe and blessed holiday!
