Jones offers several clubs to students

From Agriculture to Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), there are many clubs on the Jones campus, and most are looking for new members.

Jennifer Powell and David Ray are the leaders of the Future Business Leaders of America club on campus. Powell has served 10 years in FBLA, and Ray has served 15years. The club has a lot to offer including learning soft skills for their future careers.

“My favorite memory of this club is going on trips with the students and the bonds they make outside of the club,” Powell said, “The club is open to anyone! You don’t need a business major to be a part of the club. It’s $20 to join, monthly to bi-monthly meetings for events and working on soft skills as in interviewing and financials.”

Aidan Chisolm is a mechanical engineering major from Mize who is a part of FBLA. Chisolm mentioned that Jones FBLA has the best Collegiate chapter in the nation.

“It’s a great learning experience for anybody regardless of their major,” Chisolm said. “It mainly helps with everything for life in general.”

If interested in this club, contact Powell or Ray at david.ray@jcjc.edu or jennifer.powell@jcjc.edu.

The Art club is a small group led by Mark Brown. The club is used to promote art needs.

“The perks of being in this club is the social aspect to help beautify campus,” said Brown.

Brown has been leading the club since 2023 and has worked at Jones for 21 years. He mentioned that the club does not get much help and no one stays. The way to maintain membership is to just show up and help.

If interested, contact Brown for more information at mark.brown@jcjc.edu.

Leanne Kilgore is over the Agriculture department and has been leading Agriculture since 2020. This organization caters to those wanting an Agriculture career and to help educate the people who want to get involved with Agriculture.

“The benefactors of Agriculture is the sense of pride and understanding how things we put in our bodies and on the table are produced,” Kilgore said. “My favorite memory was taking the group to Houston, Texas to compete with livestock and winning Reserve Grand Champion Female.”

As a leader, Kilgore said that Agriculture has helped her learn more about managing young people.

Emory Smith, an Agriculture major, said that the purpose of being in this club is to teach and give hands-on experiences to future farmers and ranchers.

“Take a class, honestly just take one Agriculture class and it will change a whole perspective on our food systems and how food and farming are the grounds of communities,” Smith said. “Hands-on is my favorite. We go out and work with livestock and see production lines and how everything in the Ag world works. It’s really cool.”

Fellowship of Christian Athletes is a club to lead every coach and athlete into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ and His church. Holly Nicholas has been leading the Jones FCA for two years, but lead the club the past for seven years at her previous high school.

“FCA is Christ centered, Bible-based, spiritually nurturing, kingdom minded, fellowship oriented, and athletically focused,” she said. “We get to fellowship and worship Jesus Christ with our classmates and teammates. There’s nothing this world has to offer that will top that. We also have some great memories of discussions, prayer and so many dynamic guest speakers which have impacted our lives by giving their testimony and helping us on our journey with the living God.”

Nicholas said the way to get involved is to attend their meetings which are held every Monday night at 8 p.m. in the Home and Health Auditorium.

For more information about any of these clubs and organizations, feel free to go to the Jones website, go to clubs and organizations and look at the list of offerings.
